Best to stay overnight in Valladolid, the closest major city. From Valladolid, one can drive to the archive via either the A-62 toward Tordesillas or the Camino Viejo de Simancas. One can also take one of two buses from Valladolid:

  • La Regional Vallisoletana S.A. [1] Take the Valladolid-Simancas, Simancas-Valladolid line.
  • Autobuses Urbanos de Valladolid, S.A. [2] Take line 5, Pº Zorrila,10-Puente de Simancas-Entrepinos. Runs every 20 minutes.

One needs the Tarjeta Nacional de Investigador, which is available free of charge to any serious researcher. It can be procured at any one of the state archives; bring a passport or equivalent identity document and two loose passport photos.
